Education Solutions - One Student at a Time

The goal of the Option III Pre-GED program is to prepare students for the GED test.  The GED test provides an opportunity for students who have not graduated from high school to earn a high school equivalency diploma by taking and passing these tests.  Students who pass the GED tests are awarded a Louisiana High School Equivalency Diploma.

Even if students in the Pre-GED/Skills Option Program  do not pass the GED test before they exit the program, teachers will design instruction focused on mastery of skills up to a minimum of the ninth grade level with broad background knowledge.

Pre-GED lessons are individualized and allow students to work at their own pace.  Students that are advanced and score higher on the test can accelerate the instruction while students that are having problems can be given more one-on-one attention.

The GED Preparatory Program at Option III has been designed to provide individualized

assessment and assistance to each student with a completion goal of 100%. To ensure the

success of each student, the following four steps are taken:

bullet

Administering the TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education) test.

The TABE test is offered to accommodate several different reading levels--E through A--with A being the

            most  difficult.

bullet

Official GED Practice Tests

Students with a proficient score on the TABE test are given the official pre-test.  If a student scores a 450

average and at least a 410 in each of the academic areas, the student will be recommended to take

            the official GED test.

bullet

GED Test

Students who are recommended to take the official GED test must have the following to proceed.

$50 money order to schedule an appointment at the selected testing site through the Adult Education

                 center.

A current, official Louisiana state identification card or driver's license

A social security card bearing the name that appears on the state identification or driver's license.

bullet

Post GED

Should a student fail the GED test, he or she will resume the Pre-GED course of study until he or she

can raise the score on the practice tests.

Re-testing will be assessed a $30 fee and the process must be repeated through Adult Education
