PreGED Instructor |
Hello, my name is Julie Thomas. I recently moved to this area from Texas, where I have resided for the past 23 years. During that time, I graduated from Lamar University - Beaumont, TX with a BA in Political Science/PreLaw. While in school, my daughter, Ashley was born. She is 19 years old. In 1995 I was hired to teach middle school history at St. Mary Catholic School, where I remained for 5 years. In the meantime, I had 2 more children: Zachary and Jacob. My 3 kids are the light of my life! After 5 years of private school teaching, I applied, and was hired, to teach 4th grade at West Orange CCISD. There I taught all subjects with specialization in Writing/LA, Spelling and Reading. Throughout the last 20 years, I could be seen doing the following in my community: Attended First Baptist Church, taught Jr. High Sunday School, Mission Friends, Vacation Bible School, active in Sunday School, Co-Chaired Prayer Ministry, Youth sponsor, etc. A Total Soccer Mom - All 3 of my kids played competitive soccer, so that is where I hung out alot. My daughter played select level, which allowed us to travel all over the region in tournaments. We also competed in Upward Basketball, Swim Team, Baseball, Boy Scouts (I was co-leader). So that's where I was most of the time. However, I found time to do some things that I enjoy: playing with my dogs, cooking and preparing food for people, working on home improvement projects, reading, watching old movies, riding bicycles, fitness swimming, and travelling. From 2002-2006 I helped found a community-based organization called Project RON (Revive Our Natatorium), which relied on volunteers in the community to help support and improve our public indoor swimming facility. We did research on the benefits of having such a facility, made presentations before various groups, including City Council, solicited petitions, and held awareness fairs and fundraisers. Now in my 14th year of teaching, I have been hired by LPSB to teach PreGED Writing/Language Arts/Reading and Science content areas. I am thrilled to be working here, and anticipate a great school year!
