The Option III Welding program follows the outline designed by the American Welding Society (AWS) and the State Department of Education.  Students who successfully complete the program at the Option III campus may choose to take the AWS test to receive industry-based certification as an Entry Level Welder.

Option III Welding is a serious place.   

The purpose of the Option III Welding Program is to help students develop sufficient knowledge and skills to obtain suitable employment in the field of welding.  The Option III program offers students who are committed and serious, the opportunity to become Certified Industrial Welders.   Throughout the process, students are expected to demonstrate the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, to complete tasks independently, and achieve sufficient skill levels to produce high quality welds free of voids, porosity, and inclusions.

 

SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

CLASSROOM SUPPLIES:

 

A one inch or larger three ring binder.

Loose Leaf paper

A pen or pencil

 

SHOP EQUIPMENT:

 

Gauntlet-Type Leather Welding Gloves

Coveralls:  Long sleeve, 10 ounce, 100% cotton, non-insulated coveralls

Cutting Goggles with #5 lens. Shaded safety glasses are not allowed in the shop this year

Cutting Goggles with #5 lens. Shaded safety glasses are not allowed in the shop this year

Clear Safety Glasses

Welding Hood with #10 lens

Cotton Welder's cap

High Top, Leather, Steel Toe, slip on, glued on rubber sole,  Boots (no laces and no nails in the sole)

 

          ***No one is allowed to work in the shop without the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)  

 

     PERSONAL ITEMS WHICH ARE ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED:

 

Gas filled lighters, disposable or otherwise

Matches

Any product containing petroleum oils, distillate, or by-products

Shoes or clothing that has any part made from synthetic material, i.e., nylon, taffeta, etc.
